Safety management initiatives
Through the latest technology and collaboration with specialized institutions
Regarding strengthening the safety management system
Thank you very much for your continued patronage of Chidori Kanko Kisen Co., Ltd.
Our basic policy in business operations is to prioritize the safety of our customers, and we are working to strengthen our safety management system and rebuild our organizational governance with the aim of becoming a passenger ship operator that continues to operate safely and securely.
Safe operation is based on the knowledge, skills, and experience of each crew member, but based on the idea that ``preparation for various risks including human factors is important,'' we have built a safety management system that aims to reduce risks not only through confirmation by multiple people but also by combining multiple safety measures using equipment, systems, and organizations.
In collaboration with a company with a proven track record in the fields of transportation systems, navigation equipment, and risk management, we have recently introduced various safety support functions aimed at improving safety on small passenger ships. We would like to introduce an overview of these functions.
■ Main initiatives aimed at improving safety
1. GPS-linked overspeed warning system
(Scheduled to be introduced in 2026)
[Joint development: Resonant Systems Co., Ltd.]
purpose
We support appropriate speed management when navigating within ports and reduce the risk of overspeeding.
Overview
The area around the inner harbor of Numazu Port has been set as a speed control area, and if a vessel enters the area and exceeds the set speed, a warning will be alerted to the wheelhouse with an audible alarm and a screen display.
The warning will continue until the speed drops below the set speed, assisting the crew in speed management and supplementing safe vessel maneuvering.
2. Automatic onboard broadcast system linked to GPS location information and emergency operations
[Joint development: Resonant Systems Co., Ltd.]
purpose
By automating safety guidance to customers during berthing and landing and in emergencies, and providing timely and appropriate information, we aim to reduce risks such as falls.
Overview
When you pass a point set by GPS, a safety announcement will be made automatically asking you to sit down and use the handrails.
In addition, in the event of an emergency, the ship is equipped with a function that allows an alarm sound and emergency broadcast to be sent out all at once to the ship and the deck by pressing the emergency operation button.
This allows the crew to quickly alert customers while concentrating on ship maneuvering and evacuation guidance.
3. Introduction of ship recorder (video recording device for ships)
[Introduced equipment: Jupiter Co., Ltd.]
purpose
We aim to continuously improve our safety management system by objectively recording flight status and using it for safety education and accident prevention activities.
Overview
A spherical camera is installed in the wheelhouse, passenger seats, and bow to constantly record the operational status.
Recorded footage will be used for analysis of near-miss incidents, safety education, and evacuation drills, in order to improve safety management based on objective facts. (Recorded footage will be appropriately managed and used for the purpose of safety management and accident prevention activities.)
4. Ship operation education using eye tracking (line of sight analysis) technology
[Cooperation: Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd.]
purpose
By visualizing the safety confirmation actions practiced by experienced captains, we aim to standardize safe ship handling techniques and improve the quality of education.
Overview
A wearable line-of-sight measurement device is worn while maneuvering the vessel, and line-of-sight movements and confirmation actions are recorded and analyzed during berthing and docking, navigation in narrow channels, and other situations.
By reflecting the acquired data in our training programs, we provide objective and systematic ship handling education.
■ Continuous safety management efforts
In addition to introducing equipment and systems, our company conducts regular safety audits (twice a year) by our parent company and group passenger ship operators to continually confirm and improve the effectiveness of our safety management system.
In addition, based on the concept of safety management, we will regularly inspect and evaluate the operating status of the safety management system and reflect the results in education, training, and flight management in order to continuously improve.
From Saturday, July 18, 2020, we will gradually resume operation of Numazu Port sightseeing cruises using the "Izumaru No. 1" equipped with safety equipment.
In the future, we will continue to strive to establish an operational system that our customers can use with peace of mind, and we will continue to constantly review and improve our safety management system to further improve safety.
Auspicious day of July 2020
