Safety policy
Chidori Kanko Kisen Co., Ltd., in order to provide our customers with safe and comfortable cruises and aim to be the "world's safest passenger ship operator," we position ensuring transportation safety as our top management priority and have established the following safety policy.
- Safety first principle:We strictly comply with relevant laws and internal regulations, and conduct business operations with safety as our top priority under all circumstances.
- Active involvement of top management:We will build an open system in which top management is directly involved in safety management and information from the field is shared throughout the organization without being stagnated.
- As a general rule, suspension of operations in case of abnormalities:In the event of an abnormality or malfunction of unknown cause, we do not make decisions on our own, and as a general rule, we strictly enforce the rules of suspending operations or changing vessels.
- Continuous improvement (PDCA):In order to ensure that our safety management system continues to function effectively, we conduct audits and inspections that incorporate both internal and external perspectives, and continually strive to improve safety.
Priority safety measures (FY2020)
Learning from last year's accident as an important lesson, this year we will implement a fundamental restructuring of our safety management system through the following priority measures.
1. Strengthening hardware (introducing the latest equipment)
- By introducing an automatic on-board announcement system, we will ensure that all passengers are thoroughly informed about emergency information and ``to be fully seated and use handrails until docking.''
- Waterproof, spherical marine drive recorders are installed in the wheelhouse, passenger seats, and forward for constant monitoring and recording.
- Install stair chains, prioritize seating, and take physical safety measures.
2. Strengthening governance and management systems
- We will introduce periodic "external audits" by the parent company and group shipping division to objectively evaluate the operational status.
- We will make monthly safety reports mandatory from flight managers to top management, and ensure that near-miss events and malfunctions are shared.
3. Enhancement of on-site education and training
- We provide scientific technical guidance and ship handling education using eye tracking (line of sight analysis) glasses.
- Based on laws and safety management regulations, we formulate annual training plans (fire prevention, ship evacuation, lifesaving drills, earthquake and tsunami evacuation drills, etc.), and conduct and review them systematically every month.
